Being the Holiday season and all I thought I'd pay tribute to some of the great gift packages one may receive in Korea. Like this spam and canola oil number I received for Chuseok one year. If that doesn't seem fitting for your recipient, there's always the extremely overpriced fruit sets. I still don't understand how they can get people to pay upwards of 100,000 for a box of apples, especially when there's others for sale across the aisle at a fraction of the price. I've been told they're the best apples, no scratches, dents or bruises, but I still can't wrap my brain around it. Probably the most practical, albeit excessive gift I received during my times spent in Korea was the box of fresh grown tomatoes on teachers day. I love tomatoes as much as the next person but living alone I had to invent ways to use the 5kgs I was gifted. Thankfully some of my students were willing and eager to take a few off my hands. Not pictures, only because I wasn't lucky enough to recieve them are the various other crazy combinations one my receive during the holidays - notably Christmas and Lunar New Year. From boxed sets of Shampoo to enormous gift boxes of seaweed, it's always a good laugh for the foreigners when these presents appear.
