The Korean Wave and K-pop
Somehow I missed the memo on these things, back in 2012 I knew next to nothing about Korea. I scoured blogs and contacted friends, asking for advice on where to apply for a job teaching English abroad. Korea kept making an appearance, and although I didn't really know why, I decided to trust what everyone was saying (both good and bad) and take the plunge. Answering one too many "Wait, South Korea right?" concerns I was ready to take off and see what this country had to offer. Arriving with only the knowledge that a few friends, youtube videos and blog posts could share I wasn't sure what to expect. That was probably for the best though, having no preconceived notions or expectations meant that my slate for Korea was wiped clean, but ready to be filled.
Four years later and not only have I gained so much insight to the culture, language and people of this country, I now feel comfortable calling it home. No matter how many times I say goodbye, I know that part of me will always be here, waiting for the rest of me to return.
So what is it about Korea that drew me in? Food would be a good guess, but there's more than that, oh so much more to this country than most people give time to consider. Explore here to see what it was that pulled me in and continues to keep pulling me back.
